Founded in 1924, with around 60,000 students and a permanent teaching and research staff of about 2000, the University of Milan is one of the largest public research universities in Italy and Europe. It is consistently ranked first in Italy (ARWU) and is also routinely ranked among the finest institutions in Italy in various ranking systems, both overall and in individual academic areas.
